Grade 11 Drama (ADA3M1)
Unit One - Classroom Dynamics
Students begin to work as a theatre ensemble by doing exercises in trust, movement, teamwork and improvisation led by their drama coach. Students will then experiment with various drama structures centred on the theme of migration, specifically exploring the themes of identity and building new-out relationships.
Unit Two - The Method and Naturalism
Students will apply scene analysis and rehearsal techniques to modern Naturalist scripts. Students will experiment with acting techniques for building a character both from the inside-out and the outside-in. They will reflect on their personal preferences in their drama portfolios.
Unit Three - Theatre of the Oppressed
In this unit, students utilize the skills they have developed in research, scene analysis, acting and scriptwriting. Students will learn the techniques of forum theatre developed by theatre activist Augusto Boal. In groups of 6 to 8 people, students will research a social issue of importance to them, create and lead a workshop with their peers using forum and image theatre techniques.
Unit Four - Acting and Producing
Students will form into theatre companies that will select and mount a 20-30 minute scripted play including costumes, lights, sound set and props. Students will maintain prompt books, stage management binders and technical logs. This unit will culminate in several performances for a public audience.
